Supplements that May Reduce Knee Pain

Knee pain is an extremely common condition, affecting both young and old alike. Whether you’re a young athlete suffering from a sports injury or an older adult experiencing wear and tear, there are numerous ways to minimize the pain. Along with our advanced interventional knee pain treatments, there are several supplements that may be able to improve your arthritis pain. Although research is still ongoing, the following supplements have shown to be effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee and other arthritis-related conditions.

Supplements for Knee Pain

Glucosamine is thought to help with osteoarthritis pain, protect cartilage form deteriorating, and improve range of motion. As a natural compound in our bodies, this supplement is very safe to take, and may even be taken in place of NSAIDs.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Evidence has shown that omega-3 fatty acids provide numerous benefits for your joints, specifically in your knees. Found in cold-water fish such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel, omega-3s are known to decrease inflammation and limit pain. If you’re not a fish fan, try taking fish oil supplements to reap the same benefits.

The ginger root has been widely used as a spice and for traditional medicine. It has been known to improve joint pain and reduce inflammation in people suffering from osteoarthritis. Get creative by grating fresh ginger in your tea, vegetables, and soups. If you’d rather take the supplement, try a 100-200-mg ginger capsule per day.

Traditionally used in Chinese and Indian medicine to treat arthritis, turmeric reduces pain, inflammation, and stiffness related to osteoarthritis. The yellow-colored powder ground from the root of the turmeric plant may be sprinkled on food dishes such as rice, beans, eggs, salads, soups, potatoes, or vegetables.
